Chittagong City Corporation allocated 10 million BDT for implementing tobacco control initiatives in their annual budget

A.J.M. Nasir, Mayor of Chittagong City Corporation declared the annual budget for the fiscal year of 2015-2016 on 7th August 2015. The City Corporation allocated Ten million taka in their budget for implementing tobacco control initiatives which is 7.5 million taka more than the budget of previous year. 10 local governments of Chittagong Division allocated a total of 1, 16,35,000 taka (one crore sixteen lacs thirty five thousand taka ) for implementing the Smoke Free Guideline and Tobacco control law in their annual budget of the fiscal year 2015-2016 which is 85,15,000 taka more than previous year.

YPSA has been implementing a project on “Promoting smoke Free local Government and Public Spaces in Chittagong Division” with the support of CTFK since April 2009 with the aim to promote smoke free local government and public spaces within Chittagong Division, by advocating for smoke free policies and effective tobacco control practices at City Corporation and Municipal level as a preventive and regulatory mechanism in compliance with National Smoking and Tobacco control Act 2005.
