Mobile court fined 30,000 taka to Dhaka Tobacco Industry in Chittagong

On 31 May, a mobile court fined 30,000 Taka to Dhaka Tobacco Industry in Chittagong for having Zarda and Cigarette packets without pictorial health warning and huge promotional materials.

The mobile court visited warehouse of Dhaka Tobacco Industry and seized  2710 cigarette sticks of 135 packets, 798 pieces Zarda without pictorial health warning and promotional materials like 4000 pieces matches, 4000 pieces lighter, 48 umbrellas, 42 tea mugs and 1000 pieces bags which price is around 2 lacs 50 thousand Taka. Mr. Md. Tahmilur Rahman, Executive Magistrate of Chittagong DC office operated the mobile court. Dr. Nurul Haider, Medical Officer of Civil Surgeon Office, Police and YPSA also participated in the mobile court.

YPSA has been implementing a project on “Promoting Smoke Free local Government and Public Spaces in Bangladesh” since April 2009 with the aim “To strengthen implementation of Tobacco Control Law and Rules by local administration and law enforcing bodies and institutionalizes the best practices of smoke-free implementation by local government bodies”.
