Project title: Community Managed Local Health Services (CMLHS) Project in South-East Bangladesh

Goal

To improve the quality of people’s life with special emphasis on reproductive health and Water & Sanitation of hard to reach areas so that maternal, neonatal and infant mortality could substantially be reduced and to develop a model of sustainable health care system through the active participation of community people.

Specific Objective

Objective 1      Health: To ensure the local health services as well as to raise awareness, skill and knowledge on modern treatment for reducing mortality and morbidity rates.
Objective 2      Water and Sanitation: To improve the overall water and sanitation status through:

  • Ensuring Safe water supply providing feasible water options as per the topography of CHT
  • Ensuring the use of sanitary latrines promoting low-cost latrines managed by the community.
  • Enhancing behavioral changes on hygiene practices in term of households and personal.

Major Activities

Health Care Services:

Community Health Worker and Health and Hygiene promoter will conduct monthly courtyard meetings throughout the Project implementation period. Through these meetings, Project staff will aware community people for the importance of Antenatal Checkup (ANC), Postnatal Checkup (PNC) and mass awareness on five danger signs of risk pregnancy. To reduce maternal mortality Community Health Worker and Health and Hygiene Promoters ensuring at least 1 postnatal check-up within 42 days of deliveries.

The project facilitated Emergency Obstetric Care for ultra poor women and taking care during delivery, Skill Birth Attendant (SBA) plays vital role in the region and the emergency case they refer to the Govt. health centre for taking better service. Through EPI centers in the project catchments area implemented the vaccination campaigns for women and children and disseminated the knowledge on the importance of EPI vaccination and TT.

Treatment & Diagnosis using Laboratory:

The project updated the patient management guideline and provided training for community health worker. Community people take primary treatment, diagnosis facilities including malaria in the Kollayani clinics. The community health worker ensuring the treatment and diagnosis.

Water & Sanitation Facilities:

In CHT and Cox’s Bazar one of the major factors for the water borne diseases creating a huge lives. The project ensuring safe water options to the catchments’ communities. The project for ensuring the use of sanitary latrines promote and low-cost latrines to be managed by the community but no financial supports will be provided regarding this. Health and Hygiene Promoters creating community mobilization on washing hand with soap/ash before & after meal, washing hands with soap/ash after defecation, taking proper menstrual care and using safe water for drinking and cooking purposes.
