YPSA Youth Coordinator Afra Nawar Rahman stated that YPSA’s work focuses on various sectors, including Education, Environment and Climate Change, Disaster Risk Reduction and Humanitarian Response, Health, Human Rights, and Economic Development. Youth engagement is a ‘cross-cutting issue,’ meaning young people are engaged in every one of these sectors. All projects and objectives are structured around achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Afra noted that while every problem presents a barrier to overcome, the solution pursued by engaging young people is even more significant than the challenge itself. She explained that she can only somewhat sense what is happening in someone else’s life by observing from a distance, but in reality, the people from that community understand and feel their situation better than the staff do.
For this reason, YPSA works with young people and local volunteers to create that bridge. The main role of young people is to facilitate beautiful collaboration in all their work to solve any problem. Young people are consistently at the forefront of every one of ongoing projects.
