Project Title: “Promoting Sustainable Growth in the plastic Recycling Sub-Sector through RECP Practices” a sub-project of Sustainable Microenterprise and Resilient Transformation (SMART) project.

Project Area: Chattogram City Corporation (41 Wards)

Target Group: 300 Micro-Entrepreneurs (Plastic Recycling)

Project Duration: 25 August 2025 to 30 June 2028

Goal: To support the implementation of Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production (RECP) practices in every enterprise receiving loans under the SMART project.

Objectives:

  • Ensure optimal utilization of resources in microenterprises through efficient management.
  • Enhance productivity by promoting appropriate and sustainable technologies.
  • Strengthen the technical knowledge and resilience of entrepreneurs to foster climate-smart and sustainable business operations.

Key Activities:

  1. Environmental and RECP Training: Conduct specialized training to improve entrepreneurs’ understanding of environmental issues, focusing on workplace health, safety and fire management, and sustainable production processes.
  2. Certification and Licensing Support: Provide training on certification and licensing to enhance the quality and marketability of green products.
  3. Access to Green Finance: Facilitate tailored loan schemes to support entrepreneurs in adopting RECP practices and technologies.
  4. Waste Management and Grants: Establish waste management facilities and provide grants to implement RECP initiatives.
  5. Digital Transformation: Develop and operationalize a digital platform integrating environmental and financial monitoring systems.
  6. Community Engagement: Form cluster-based Environmental Clubs to promote community awareness and participation.
  7. Research and Innovation (R&D): Implement activities such as plastic granule filter cleaning, burner chamber installation, and recycling innovation.
  8. Market Development: Support entrepreneurs in promoting and accessing local and international green product markets.
  9. Technical Upgradation: Provide financial and technical assistance for RECP demonstrations, skill development, and adoption of modern machinery.
  10. Gender Equality: Ensure gender balance and inclusivity across all project interventions.

Expected Outcomes:

  • Enhanced environmental and climate awareness among micro-entrepreneurs.
  • Expansion of eco-friendly production and sustainable waste management practices.
