“NGOs are a partner of the government” Dr Gauhar Rizvi

“Terming the NGO as the third sector, NGOs are a partner of the government and this partnership should be strengthened for proper development” said Dr Gauhar Rizvi, international affairs adviser to the Prime Minister.

Dr Rizvi was addressing the Chittagong divisional conference titled ‘Role of Non-government Volunteering Organisations in Socio-economic Development of the Country’ with Chittagong Divisional Commissioner Chittagong  Muslim Institute Hall on 7 September 2013.

In his speech, Dr Rizvi said the major tasks of NGOs are to uphold the rights of people, especially that of women.

“NGOs should make women aware so that none can lead them backward. Development of the country is not possible unless women get equal rights both in homes and outdoors”, he added.

He also urged the NGOs to work with more accountability and transparency for a balanced development of the country.

Chittagong Divisional Commissioner Mohammad Abdullah presided over the meeting while director general of the NGO Affairs Bureau Mohammad Nurun Nabi Talukder, Deputy Commissioner of Chittagong

Abdul Mannan and Deputy Commissioner of Rangamati Mostafa Kamal, among others, addressed in the meeting.

Mr. Shahidul Islam, Program manager of YPSA presented a keynote on ‘Role of Non-government Volunteering Organisations in Socio-economic Development of the Country’ in the meeting.
