YPSA attended 15th World Assembly of Youth (WAY) General Assembly in Melaka, Malaysia on November 22 to 26.
The assembly adopted the theme “Youth Rise for Peace!”.
During the assembly, Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam stepped down as WAY President and handed over the post to Malaysian Member of Parliament Datuk Idris Haron. Datuk Seri Mohd Ali served as WAY President for 17 years.
The 61-year old outgoing president jested that he is almost as old as WAY, which was set up in London in 1949.
Mr. Md. Mahbuabar Rahman Director(Field Operation )and Mr. Palash Kumar Chowdhury Director(Finance ) attended the Assembly a representatives from YPSA.
WAY is the international coordinating body of youth councils and organizations. WAY membership covers 110 countries from all continents. It has general consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (UN ECOSOC), UN Environment Programme (UNEP), UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), UN Population Fund (UNFPA), UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF), UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), the World Health Organization (WHO) and other international agencies.
It works for the promotion of youth and youth organizations in program areas such as population, drug abuse, health, employment, entrepreneurship, globalization, and environment, youth participation in decision-making, human rights, democracy and leadership training.
