More than fifty percent of forcefully displaced persons of Rakhine state are women. Rohingya women, who were worst victims of the violence and the easy prey for the rioters and Myanmar army. Accounts of rape and sadistic sexual assaults were shared by many Rohingyas. Their family members have been slaughtered in front of them. These women are severely traumatised and showed clear symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Beside that huge number of women are pregnant. Starvation, unhealthy environment in the makeshift camps and diseases like diarrhoea and fever are further deteriorating their already vulnerable mental state.
With the support of ActionAid Bangladesh, YPSA has established a Women Friendly Space (WFS) at Moinerghona Camp in Ukhia, Cox’s Bazar. Paramedics and skilled field facilitators have been giving the health, psycho-social and information support to the displaced Rohingya women.
