National Anti-Tobacco Platform (NATP) organized a seminar and Tobacco-Control Award 2019 giving ceremony at the PKSF auditorium, Dhaka on 12 May on the occasion of World No Tobacco Day 2019 . Agriculture Minister Dr Md Abdur Razzaque was present as the chief guest and National Professor Brig (Retd) Abdul Malik as special guest in the function. Chairman of PKSF and convener of National Anti-Tobacco Platform (NATP) Qazi Kholiquzzaman Ahmad presided over the function.
Young Power in Social Action (YPSA) received the award in institution category while Prof Dr Pran Gopal Datta in individual category and Bangladesh Cancer Society in research and publication category for their significant contributions to discouraging the use of tobacco.
Besides, young researcher Syeda Sazia Afroze Rupma was given special honorary award for promoting research activities over tobacco control.
The chief guest put emphasis on farming agricultural products instead of tobacco. “The domestic market should be expanded. Bangladesh is a country with a lot of potential. We can export a lot of agricultural goods if we can further modernize the sector.”
