WFP Country Director Dom Scalpelli Visits YPSA General Food Assistance (GFA) Programme

United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) delegation, led by WFP Country Director Dom Scalpelli, Deputy Head of Area Office Mitsugu HAMI, and Head of GFA Rokibul Alam, visited the YPSA GFA Lombashia Outlet, on 15 January 2025. The visit focused on reviewing operations, engaging beneficiaries, and assessing the impact of the GFA programme.

They were warmly accompanied by YPSA’s key personnel: Shahidul Islam, Deputy Director and Head of Rohingya Response; Jishu Barua, Assistant Director; Abdur Sabur, Assistant Director and YPSA Safeguarding Focal Person; Ismail Faroque Manik, Programme Manager of GFA; Asaduzzaman, M&E Officer; and Abdullah Sayed. Shajahan Monir from WFP also joined the team during the visit.

The delegation was taken through a detailed review of the outlet’s operations. The visitors observed the layout, distribution mechanisms, and safeguarding protocols in place. As part of their visit, the delegation participated in a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) with newly arrived beneficiaries. The beneficiaries shared their personal stories of struggle and suffering, recounting the challenges they faced in accessing basic necessities such as food, shelter, and healthcare. The visitors listened attentively, showing deep empathy for the plight of these vulnerable individuals. During the discussion, Dom Scalpellim reassured the beneficiaries that WFP is steadfast in its commitment to supporting them. He emphasized that WFP will continue to stand by the affected communities, ensuring consistent access to vital food assistance.

The visit concluded with expressions of gratitude and mutual appreciation. Dom Scalpellim and Mitsugu HAMI commended YPSA’s exceptional efforts in managing the GFA programme effectively at the grassroots level. They recognized the dedication and commitment of the YPSA team, which has been instrumental in delivering impactful results. The delegation reaffirmed WFP’s ongoing support and acknowledged the importance of this strong partnership in addressing the pressing needs of the community. As the visit drew to a close, key takeaways were outlined. WFP pledged to continue collaborating closely with YPSA to enhance the reach and impact of the GFA programme.
