The YPSA–SMART Project (Sub Sector: Plastic Recycling) successfully organized a Staff Capacity Building Training Program on 24 January 2025, bringing together around 50 project staff members to strengthen their technical and operational capacities for effective project implementation.
The training was graced by the presence of YPSA’s senior leadership, including Dr. Md. Arifur Rahman, Founder and CEO, Dr. Shamsun Nahar Chowdhury, Management Advisor, Md. Manzur Murshed Chowdhury, Director (Economic Development), Md. Sayeed Akter, Assistant Director-MIS (Economic Development), and Didarul Islam, Area Manager (Jalalabad Area) and all project staff of YPSA-SMART Plastic Recycling project.
The program began with the National Anthem, followed by an inaugural address by Md. Manzur Murshed Chowdhury, who encouraged participants to actively engage in the learning process for achieving the YPSA-SMART Project goals.
The training featured several interactive and informative sessions. Md. Shahedul Islam, Environmental Officer of Visual Knitwears Limited, presented on the context and objectives of the SMART Project, highlighting the plastic waste situation in Chattogram and the importance of sustainable recycling.
Delowar Hossain, Project Manager (YPSA-SMART Plastic Recycling project), conducted sessions on plastic recycling processes, types of plastics, microenterprise development, and loan and grant management under the YPSA-SMART Project.
Special focus was given to Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production (RECP) and environmental practices, facilitated by Mohiuddin, Environment & RECP Officer (YPSA-SMART Plastic Recycling project) and Shahidul Islam Munna, Technical Officer – Machinery & Equipment (YPSA-SMART Plastic Recycling project). The session emphasized sustainable production methods, RECP screening, and environmental compliance.
A practical session on Monitoring, MIS, eKPI cards, and Grievance Redress Mechanism (GRM) was conducted by Nazmun Nahar, MIS & Documentation Officer (YPSA-SMART Plastic Recycling project), ensuring participants gained hands-on experience in project monitoring and reporting tools.
An open discussion session led by Md. Sayeed Akter addressed loan target challenges, risk mitigation strategies, and staff feedback, followed by valuable guidance from the Dr. Md. Arifur Rahman, Founder and CEO, Dr. Shamsun Nahar Chowdhury, Management Advisor.
The program concluded with the distribution of a token of love (backpack) to all participants and a closing address by the Founder and CEO Dr. Md. Arifur Rahman.
This training marks another important step in strengthening YPSA’s commitment to building a skilled workforce for promoting sustainable plastic recycling and resilient microenterprises through the SMART Project.
