YPSA and TBS Roundtable: Addressing the Climate-Induced Child Labour Crisis

YPSA and The Business Standard jointly organized a roundtable discussion to address the growing crisis of climate-induced migration and its impact on vulnerable populations. The full discussion, titled “Climate Displacement Fuelling Hazardous Child Labour in Cities,” was published today in The Business Standard.

Key Discussion Points:

  • The Climate-Labour Link: Climate change is driving a rural-to-urban migration surge. Displaced individuals, stripped of their traditional livelihoods, are being forced into hazardous occupations to survive.

  • Child Labour Hotspots: Speakers highlighted an alarming rise in hazardous child labour within the iron-based factories and dried fish industries of Chattogram and Cox’s Bazar.

  • Call for Action: The meeting emphasized the urgent need for coordinated national and international climate initiatives to protect those displaced by environmental shifts.

  • Project Context: This event was conducted under the CALL (Climate Action at Local Level) project, supported by Solidar Suisse and Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).
