YPSA Road Safety Initiatives: 400 Drivers Received training on Safe Driving Skills at Moheskhali Upzila

Speech by chief guest

A two-day special training program for tomtom, CNG, and battery-operated rickshaw drivers was successfully completed on 8–9 April in Moheshkhali Upazila, aiming to prevent road accidents and raise public awareness. Organized under the theme “Safe Driving through Skills, Safe Life,” the program engaged approximately 400 drivers from different parts of the upazila.

Participants

The training was organized by the Upazila Administration with support from Young Power in Social Action (YPSA) and conducted in three separate batches. The primary objective was to promote a culture of responsible driving among drivers and enhance their technical knowledge and awareness to prevent road accidents.

During the sessions, participants were provided with detailed guidance on disciplined road behavior, speed control, proper overtaking techniques, and the importance of physical and mental health. Special emphasis was placed on avoiding substance abuse and ensuring pedestrian safety. Trainers highlighted that negligence and reckless driving have led to an alarming rate of child casualties on the roads, which can be significantly reduced through planned training initiatives.

Speech by Officer-in-Charge (Investigation) of Moheshkhali Police Station

The Chief Guest of the program was Imran Mahmud Dalim, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Moheshkhali, who addressed the current road conditions of the area and provided direction to drivers on accident prevention. He also remained present throughout the two-day training to encourage participants.

Special guests included Abu Jafar Majumdar, Assistant Commissioner (Land) of Moheshkhali; Pratul Kumar Shil, Officer-in-Charge (Investigation) of Moheshkhali Police Station; Sub-Inspector Mohammad Iqbal; Upazila Ansar Commander Anwar; and YPSA Focal Point (Moheshkhali Upazila) Aziz Shikdar. Representatives from local drivers’ and owners’ associations also actively participated in the event.

The event was facilitated by Yousuf Ali, Training Coordinator of YPSA Center for Youth and Development, while the training sessions were conducted by Zaynab Jahan Nasrin.

Participating drivers shared their experiences and feedback from the training and urged the administration to continue such initiatives in the future. YPSA believes that proper awareness and collective efforts can make the roads of Moheshkhali safer and more people-friendly.

YPSA welcomed this initiative by the Upazila Administration and expressed its commitment to working together in the future for the overall development of the area.
