Project Officer (BLUE PRISM)

Young Power in Social Action (YPSA) <www.ypsa.org>, established in 1985 (International Youth Year) is an organization for sustainable development working in Dhaka Division, Sylhet Division, Chattogram Division including Chittagong Hill Tracts, Cox’s Bazar. YPSA is going to implement a project titled “BLUE PRISM – Building Links for Upstream-downstream Engagement – reducing Plastic Litter in Rivers and promoting Integrated & Sustainable Management”.

Summary of this Project

This is a multi-country initiative being implemented in Bangladesh and Nepal to address plastic pollution through upstream–downstream collaboration, improved plastic pollution monitoring, inclusive circular-economy and waste-management models, and plastic reduction innovations in the tourism sector.

The project is funded by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Climate Action, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMUKN), Germany, based on a decision of the German Bundestag, with Bauhaus-Universität Weimar (BUW), Germany, as the lead organization. In Bangladesh, Young Power in Social Action (YPSA) is a key implementing partner and will lead Work Package 1 (Multi-level Capacity Development Network) and contribute substantially to WP2 on plastic pollution monitoring, WP3 on social business models for circular and inclusive plastic waste management, and WP4 on plastic reduction and avoidance innovations in tourism.

YPSA will implement activities particularly in Chattogram and Cox’s Bazar, working with government institutions, municipalities, communities, private-sector actors, tourism businesses and informal waste workers to promote evidence-based, inclusive and sustainable solutions to plastic pollution.

Job Purpose

The Project Officer will support day-to-day field implementation of BLUE PRISM activities, including stakeholder mobilization, community engagement, monitoring activities, training, workshops, plastic pollution reduction activities, tourism-sector engagement and inclusive waste-management interventions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support implementation of project activities according to the approved work plan.
  • Conduct field visits and coordinate activities with communities and stakeholders.
  • Mobilize participants for training, workshops, consultations and campaigns.
  • Support stakeholder mapping and engagement.
  • Assist in plastic waste monitoring and field data collection.
  • Support implementation of WP3 activities related to inclusive plastic collection and waste-management models.
  • Support engagement with informal waste workers and waste-worker platforms.
  • Assist in OHS awareness and safeguard-related activities.
  • Support tourism-sector engagement and plastic reduction activities in Chattogram/ Cox’s Bazar.
  • Assist in organizing meetings, workshops, exchange events and community campaigns.
  • Collect and maintain field-level project data and evidence.
  • Prepare field activity reports, photographs, attendance records and other documentation.
  • Coordinate with local government, community representatives, tourism businesses and other stakeholders.
  • Identify implementation challenges and report them to the Program Manager.
  • Ensure field activities follow YPSA and project safeguarding requirements.
  • Support M&E activities and data verification.
  • Undertake any other relevant project responsibilities assigned by the supervisor.

Educational Qualification

  • Postgraduate degree in any discipline.

Required Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in development/NGO projects.
  • Experience in field-level project implementation and community mobilization.
  • Experience in environmental, waste management, climate change, DRR or community development projects will be considered as advantage.
  • Experience working with local government and community stakeholders will be an advantage.

Job location: Chattogram/Cox’s Bazar, with extensive field visits respective project sites in Chattogram or Cox’s Bazar.

Monthly Salary: BDT 43,600
