YPSA observed International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women

YPSA and its local partner organization observe International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women 2009 at Chittagong. YPSA, BITA and Chittagong We Can Alliance to End Domestic Violence jointly organized a fifteen day WE CAN campaign from 25 November to 10 december’09. Deputy Commissioner of Chittagong Mr. Farid Uddin Ahamed Chowdhury was presents this campaign inauguration ceremony as the Chief Guest. Mr. Omar Kaiser, member secretary, Chittagong We Can Alliance to End Domestic Violence, Raojan Upazilla Chairman Mr. Ehasanul Haider Babul, Chittagong City Corporation Councilor Advocate Rehana Kabir Ranu, Councilor Saheda Kasem Sathi, Councilor Sabiha Musa, Banskhali Upazilla Vice President Yamun Nahar, We Can Alliance Member Father Jibon Josep Gomej were present there as special guest. After inauguration the campaign a motor van rally to go round the main roads of Chittagong city. In Evening YPSA organize a discussion meeting and Cultural program about we can campaign and International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women at Nazrul Square of D C hill, Chittagong.
This year marks the 10th anniversary of the commemoration of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. By resolution 54/134 of 17 December 1999, the General Assembly designated 25 November as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and invited governments, international organizations and NGOs to organize activities designated to raise public awareness of the problem on that day. Women’s activists have marked 25 November as a day against violence since 1981. This date came from the brutal assassination in 1960, of the three Mirabal sisters, political activists in the Dominican Republic, on orders of Dominican ruler Rafael Trujillo (1930-1961).On 20 December 1993 the General Assembly adopted Declaration on the Elimination of Violence against Women (A/RES/48/104).
