Discussion meeting on Right to Food held at Sitakund

Meeting

YPSA organized a discussion meeting on Right to Food at YPSA HRDC Campus, Sitakund on 16 February 2014.

Speakers stress different hazards to food safety. General awareness about food safety and food hygiene in Bangladesh is very low. Food borne illness and poor food hygiene issues are frequently overshadowed by reports of chemical contamination and adulteration. Access to safe water, proper sanitation and adequate health facilities are important aspects of nutritional status. Unsafe drinking water and lack of proper sanitation are leading causes of diarrhea and other infections.

Government and non-government organizations should ensure accumulating real poor people including persons with disability for the Vulnerable Group Feeding (VGF), Vulnerable Group Development (VGD) and Disability Allowance. Redundant price hike and quality of food distribution should be monitored properly to ensure consumer right.

Station manager of Community Radio Sagor Giri FM Mr. Shah Sultan Shamim presided the meeting while Program Officer of YPSA Newaz Mahmud moderated the meeting. Mr. Sawrav Barua, Chief Executive of Sangshaptaque was present in the meeting. UP members, local journalists, student, farmers, fisherman, member of market association, Federation of DPOs and NGO activists were present in the meeting.
