Workshop on planned relocation of highly vulnerable climate induced displaced households in South-Eastern coast of Bangladesh

On Monday,September 17, 2018, a workshop was held on “planned relocation of highly vulnerable climate induced displaced households in South-Eastern coast of Bangladesh”. The workshop was organized by YPSA (Young Power in Social Action) and supported by Climate Justice Resilience Fundat Upazila conference hall in Banskhali, Chattogram.

Ms Momena Akter, UNO Banskhali was present as chief guest in the workshop. Mr Mohammad Shahjahan, Deputy Director-YPSA, gave welcome speech and Palash Kumar Chowdhury, Director-Finance, YPSA gave closing remarks in the workshop.

A power point presentation was presented by Morshed Hossan Molla, MIS and Documentation Officer of YPSA on the draft works on different strategies and plan for validating and gathering feedback, which were developed as part of proposal development on planned relocation of highly vulnerable climate induced displaced households in South-Eastern coast of Bangladesh. The objective of the workshop was to validate the findings and gather feedback from workshop participants of the different strategies and plan that was prepared as part of project proposal.

A total of 41 different stakeholders who were representatives from climate change displaced communities, community leaders, local government elected representative, representative of community based organizations, leader of women representative, NGO representatives working in the community level and local media have participated in the workshop.

Ms Momena Akter mentioned that she is well aware of YPSA’s work in Banskhali particularly in emergency response. The findings from research and draft works were critical and she endorsed that engaging stakeholder to address the work for landless and homeless climate displaced people will support in fulfilling government projects in this area in Banskhali.

CPP Banskhali; Mr Tauhidur Rahman, Manager, SurjerHashi, Banskhali and Mr Saikat Acharya, Journalist, Banskhali addressed in the workshop.
