“Unplanned work is mainly responsible for any man-made disaster. We are cutting down trees, destroying our mountains by illegal hill cutting and filling up ponds. So we are in a great danger of disaster. Now, it is time to come forward against these destructible actions. We are hoping for a safe city by working together.” said Md. Morshed Alam, 8 no ward Councilor and President of the Ward Disaster Management Committee while he presided over an Inception Meeting.
The inception meeting of 8 no Sholokbohor Ward Disaster Management Committee was held at 8no Ward councilor’s office on 29th September, 2019 in Chattogram. YPSA has organized the meeting under the project “Proyash II” with the support of Save the Children.
Ms. Nasim Banu, Deputy Director of YPSA said, “Under the Proyash II project of YPSA all necessary support will be provided to this committee. We all want to create a safe, green and clean city by working together. Hope this committee will set an example for all in disaster risk management. ”
YPSA’s Documentation Officer Ms. Tamanna Begum gave an overview of the project and Ms. Sanzida Akter, M&E Officer of YPSA; presented the roles and responsibility of WDMC. Whole program was facilitated by Mr. Ataul Hakim, Project Officer of YPSA.
Mr. Md. Rabiul, representative from Fire Service and Civil Defense; Ms. Rehana Khanom, Principal of Hosen Ahmed Chy City Corporation High School; Mr. Obidul Islam, Senior Officer of Save the Children, Mr. Md. Shawkat Osman, Project Coordinator of YPSA, Mr. Osman Gani, Field Oddicer of YPSA were also present at the meeting.
