“BSRM has been working for the corporate sectors around the country. From the view of corporate social responsibility, BSRM has started working for the development of livelihood of the farmers with the support of YPSA. Other long terms social developmental projects will be undertaken in Sitakund and Mirsharai in future” said Mr. Alihussain Akberali FCA, Chairman of BSRM while he was addressing as chief guest in a MOU signing ceremony of “YPSA-BSRM Khet Khamar Project” held at YPSA HRDC Sitakund Campus, Chittagong on 16 September 2013.
Mr. Abdullah Al Baker Bhuiyan, Upazila Chairmen of Sitakund, Ms. Ruhi M. Ahmed, Head of BSRM CSR and Communication, Md. Arifur Rahman, Chief Executive of YPSA, Tapan Sengupta, Executive Director of BSRM, Hasan Zafar Chowdhury, Executive Director, BSRM Steel Mills Ltd. and Dr. Eklas Uddin, Advisor of YPSA were special guests in the program.
“Agriculture plays a pivotal role in Bangladesh’s economy and in the lives of the vast majority of its population. In Bangladesh, most of the people living beneath the poverty line are farmers.
Helping farming families will increase production in a sustainable way, and sell more crops, is the most effective way to reduce hunger and poverty over the long term.
When farmers grow more food and earn more income, they are better able feed to their families, send their children to school, provide for their family’s health, and invest in their farms. This makes their communities economically stronger and more stable”, Speakers said in the program.
The project titled “YPSA-BSRM Khet Khamar Project” will be implemented in two villages at Mirsharai Upazila under Chittagong district. Farmers of two villages are the main beneficiaries of the mentioned project.
Mr. Md. Mahabubur Rahman, Director (Social Development) and Mr.Palash Kumar Chowdhury, Director (Finance) of YPSA were also present in the signing ceremony.
