“Strengthening capacity of the School Management Committees would help them to integrate their roles for assuring sustainable option of safe water supply, sanitation and hygiene promotion” speaker said in a two-day orientation workshop for the School Management Committees arranged by YPSA during 12-13 January 2014.
A total of 20 SMC members from six different schools cum cyclone shelters under Chittagong City Corporation participated in the training workshop.
Being a coastal area, Chittagong city is highly vulnerable in terms of climate change effects. Water and sanitation facilities are in poor condition in cyclone shelters, causes incidence of water borne diseases. Considering the above situation, YPSA wishes to implement a project with the aim to improve quality of life through ensuring water supply and basic sanitation provision in cyclone shelters in targeted areas of Bangladesh’s cyclone belt. The Project will strengthen the capacity of school management committee and volunteers to play an active role for ensuring safe water and sanitation in the shelters through community management mechanism. Through raising awareness on the uses of safe drinking water and sanitary latrine will increase which will contribute to reduce health risks and involve people in climate change adaptation mechanism.
Mr. Mahabubur Rahman, Director (SD), YPSA gave welcome speech in the workshop. Mr. Abdullah Hill Mamun , Manager, UPPR town team, Chittagong, UNDP inaugurated the training workshop.
