YPSA observes International Day of Older Persons 2017

Discussion meeting International Day of Older Persons 2017 arranged by YPSA

YPSA has organized rally, discussion meeting and friendly football match at Shekerhat High school of Sayedpur Union in Sitakund to mark the “International Day of Older Persons 2017” with support of PKSF.

“Elderly people are discriminated in society.  In our country, the major initiative for the poor or helpless elderly people taken by the government under the social security  is “Old Age Allowance Program”. But it is very small compared to the provisions and not in proper implementation.

Government should take steps precisely. Besides the improving quality of life of the elderly people, all should come forward for their recreational facilities.”  Speakers said in the discussion meeting.

Mr. A.HM Tazul Islam Nizami, Chairman of Sayedpur Union of Sitakund was present as chief guest while Mr. Samsul Alom, president of Bakkhaly Elderly people of Sayedpur presided over the meeting. Mr. Abdul malek, Ms. Rahimal Akter Union member of Sayedpur, Mr. Newaz Mahmud focal person of YPSA Elderly people program, Mr. Saied Alom Coordinator of Sayedpur UP were the special guest in the meeting.  Mr. Sumon Hossain Program Organizer of Elderly people program has facilitated the program.

On 14 December 1990, the United Nations General Assembly (by resolution 45/106) designated 1 October the International Day of Older Persons.

The theme of the 2017 commemoration is “Stepping into the Future: Tapping the Talents, Contributions and Participation of Older Persons in Society”.
