Phunthi Phather Ashar (পুঁথি পাঠের আসর) is one’s performance of reading book or reciting poetry or story telling with nice melody in a traditional way on the courtyard or small stage in rural areas. YPSA arranged a Phunthi Phather Ashar at the Age Friendly Space (AFS) for displaced older Rohingya people located at Balukhali Camp -2, Ukhia, Cox’s Bazaar. Phunti singer Md Shahed Hossain and translator Md Jagar were hired from Balukhali Camp -1.
YPSA is implementing a project “Response to the needs of Older People amongst Forcibly Displaced Citizens of Myanmar” at Balukhali Camp -2 with the support of HelpAge International. The Goal the project is to provide necessary support to the older people amongst forcibly displaced citizen of Myanmar (aged + 50) to reducing morbidity and mortality rate both form communicable and non-communicable diseases, including NCDs amongst older people of Forcibly Displaced People of Myanmar through increased access to integrated health services.
Older men and women are provided with safe and dignified spaces and community outreach structures to access information, referral pathways and social/ recreational activities.
Besides recreational activities at the AFS, older people hear local news and listen to local song, recite their holy book Quran etc.
