Under ‘Initiatives to Prevent Human Trafficking in Emergency Response project’, YPSA organized “Orientation on Prevention and Suppress of Human Trafficking Act, 2012 with the Camp-In-Charge (CIC)” at Long Beach Hotel, Kalatoli, Cox’s Bazar on 19th February, 2019. A total of 27 Camp-In-Charge (CIC) attended the program. Mr. Mohammed Abul Kalam ndc, Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commission (RRRC) was present as chief guest and Mr. Mohammad Mizanur Rahmanand Mr. Kazi Mozzamel Hoque, ARRRC, and Mr. Palash Chowdhury, Director-Finance of YPSA were present as special guest in the orientation program.
Ms. Khaleda Begum, Deputy Director of YPSA presided over the program. At the onset of the program, Mr. Mohammed Shahidull Islam, Assistant Director of YPSA greeted all the honorable participants in the program and briefed YPSA activities through a PowerPoint presentation while Mr. Jishu Barua, Program Coordinator of YPSA presented an overview of the project.
Mr. Mykal Mondol, National Protection Officer, Counter Trafficking, IOM provided a brief on human trafficking issues.
The key speaker on the human trafficking act was Dr. Professor A. B. M. Abu Noman, Dean, Faculty of Law, University of Chittagong. In his speech, Mr. Mohammed Abul Kalam ndc, RRRC, “The human traffickers are targeting the Rohingyas in the camps for their vulnerabilities. Most of human trafficking incidents are taking place at night. So, YPSA and CICs should work collectively to take up preventive human trafficking.” He suggested that CICs should take special measures for the next 3 following months as during the period of the year, most of the trafficking incidents occur.
Mr. Mannuel Perara, Deputy Chief of Mission said, “ IOM is invested in combating human trafficking alongside the government of Bangladesh. We have given the highest priority now on counter trafficking in Rohingya camps.”
In fine, Ms. Khaleda Begum, Deputy Director of YPSA concluded the program with thanks to everybody attending the program amid their respective tight schedule.
