YPSA has organized Ward Disaster Management Committee (WDMC) inception meeting on 24th March at the CDA Public School and College in Ward-4 (Chandgaon Residential Area) with the support of Save the Children. The event was chaired by newly elected Councilor Md. Asrarul Hoque of Ward 4 of Chattogram City Corporation, and facilitated by Proyash II project officer Ataul Hakim.
In addition, representatives from local government, NGO, FSCD, CCC, teachers, religious leaders, health practitioners, police, garment workers and volunteers are also present as other WDMC members. At the beginning of the event disaster profile of Chattogram City Corporation is shared along with the mission, vision, activities, beneficiaries and technical partners of PROYASH II project through multi-media presentation.
Md. Obidul Islam, Senior Officer – Urban Resilience II of Save the Children present the roles and responsibilities of WDMC members. Following to that an open discussion happen and WDMC members highlight the hazards of Ward-4 and ways to overcome those obstacles to create a habitat Ward-4. Most of them highlights waterlogging and waste management as key man made hazards in Ward – 4.
Councilor Asrarul Hoque agrees with all and assure to work together to overcome these hazards. He also expresses his gratitude to Save the Children and YPSA to assist in forming WDMC and organize inception event with all the members although it is under the responsibility of CCC according to SOD.
