The United Nations is marking the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-based Violence from 25 November to 10 December 2022, under the global theme set by the UN Secretary-General’s UNiTE campaign: “UNiTE! Activism To End Violence Against Women and Girls!”. YPSA with the support of Chattogram District Administration and Plan International Bangladesh innaugurated the campagin at the Circuit House, Chattogram on 27th November 2022 .
Ms. Sumoni Akter, Additional District Magistrate, Chattogram was present as chief guest in the inaugural ceremony. She said, it is not possible to gain sustainable development unless we achieve a safe social environment for women. We are working tirelessly to implement the Honorable Prime Minister’s declaration on eradicating child marriage within 2041.
In the inaugural speech, the deputy director of YPSA, Ms. Nasim Banu Shyamoli said, “one out of four women in Bangladesh have faced any form of violence. It has been increased in COVID situation where one out of two women is having this experience. Hence, we should take substantial actions.”
The panel mayor of Chattogram City Corporation Mr. Gias Uddin and Deputy Director of the Department of Women Affairs, Chattogram region Madhobi Barua were present as a special guests where other distinguished guests were, Women Activist Jasmin Sultana Paru, ADAB Chattogram chapter general secretary Mohammad Ali Shikder, divisional manager of YPSA Farhana Idris, program manager Sabuj Barua. The program was anchored by the Zila coordinator of YPSA Mr. Omar Shahed Hiru.
Then, the bi-cycle rally and caravan campaign visited several spots of the city to aware people and distributed campaign leaflets. The team also met the Divisional Commissioner Mr. Ashraf Uddin where he pledged his consolidations with the campaign and applauded the initiatives. The program was ended up by the ceremonial speech by ward councilor Mr. Morshed Alam where he reiterated the role of youth to combat violence against women. He added that youth are the pioneer to overcome any challenge of the society so it is high time to come forward in this issue.
