On March 10th, YPSA joined the global celebration of International Women’s Day at it’s head office with call to “Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress” set the tone for a discussion about the status of women in Bangladesh, the challenges they face, and the importance of supporting them.
The event, facilitated by Ms. Farhana Idris, YPSA’s Program Manager, brought together various officials, including senior management and general members, to talk about pressing issues affecting women.
The discussion started with a concept note read by Ataul Hakim, Sadia Tajin, and Sajnim Sahara Sami, highlighting the need to invest more in women to speed up progress towards gender equality.
After that, participants talked about the importance of inclusive strategies to support women’s rights, the need to involve decision-makers in initiatives like the Generation Equality Forum, and sharing success stories to inspire others.
During the talk, many female colleagues shared their personal experiences of discrimination, showing that it’s a widespread issue even for those in high positions.
The event was attended by Dr. Shamsunnahar Chowdhury Lopa, General member of YPSA, Ms. Nasim Banu, Director (Social Development), Mohammad Shahjahan, Director (KM4D), Ms. Roksana Begum, Assistant Director, Ms. Shyamashree Dey, Secretary of the Chief Executive, Pradip Acharjee, Manager (Resource Mobilization), KM4D, Syed Mohon Uddin & Sajadul Anower Bhuiya, District Manager, Sanzida Akter, Project Coordinator, along with many other YPSA staff members.
Overall, the event served as a platform to reflect on the challenges women face and reaffirm YPSA’s commitment to supporting women’s rights in Bangladesh and beyond. YPSA stands firm in its mission to accelerate progress towards a more equal and inclusive society for all.
