Humble Beginnings, Remarkable Growth

YPSA’s roots trace back to 1985 when a group of enterprising youth activists established ‘Young Power,’ a youth organization dedicated to social development, in Chattogram’s Sitakunda Sadar. The organization’s inception coincided with the United Nations-declared International Youth Year.

In 1991, ‘Young Power’ played a pivotal role in providing emergency relief and rehabilitation following the devastating cyclone and storm surge that ravaged the region. This experience marked a turning point, leading to the organization’s transformation into ‘Young Power in Social Action’ (YPSA) in 1992.

A Beacon of Social Development

YPSA has since expanded its operations, establishing a strong presence not only in the Chittagong Division but also across Bangladesh and internationally. The organization’s unwavering commitment to social development has earned it a reputation for excellence and garnered recognition both locally and globally.

In 1998, YPSA’s pioneering role in youth and development was acknowledged when it participated in the United Nations World Youth Forum and Festival in Portugal. The following year, the organization received the prestigious International Youth Peace Award.

Currently, YPSA holds Special Consultative Status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), further solidifying its position as a respected and influential organization. In 2021, YPSA’s achievements were further celebrated when it was named the Champion of WSIS Prizes 2021 for Empowering women with disabilities through market-driven ICT training and accessible information.

A Multifaceted Approach to Social Transformation

YPSA’s current focus lies on six thematic areas: health, education, economic empowerment, human rights and good governance, climate change, and disaster management. Through its multifaceted approach, YPSA directly and indirectly impacts the lives of nearly 10 million people across Bangladesh.

YPSA’s 39th anniversary celebration served as a testament to the organization’s unwavering commitment to social progress and empowerment. As YPSA embarks on its next chapter, it remains dedicated to its mission of creating a more just and equitable society for all.
