On February 10, 2025, a team of visitors observed the YPSA-NRC Post Flood Response Project titled “Post Emergency Response for Flood-Affected People in the Southeastern Districts of Bangladesh,” located in Kutubpur Union within the Bagamganj sub-district of Noakhali district.
Since September 2024, YPSA has been executing an emergency support initiative in Feni district to address the impacts of flooding in the region, with assistance from the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC). Currently, YPSA is continuing its efforts to aid in the post-emergency flood response in Noakhali.
The intervention includes providing cash grants for the partial reconstruction of damaged shelters, financial support for rebuilding household latrines, assistance to educational institutions for the reconstruction of WASH facilities, and awareness-raising activities focused on health and hygiene, as outlined in the Joint Assessment Plan (JAP) conducted by NRC and Concern Worldwide. The financial grants are supported by Sweden Sverige, with assistance from NRC.
Notable attendees included Miss Matilda Svensson, First Secretary for Humanitarian and Development Cooperation at the Embassy of Sweden in Dhaka; Miss Marianne Rabe Knaevelsrud, Deputy Head of Mission at the Norwegian Embassy in Dhaka; Mr. Morshed Ahmed, Senior Advisor for Development Affairs at the Norwegian Embassy; Miss Wendy McCance, Country Director for NRC Bangladesh; Mr. Mainul Islam, Head of Program for NRC Bangladesh; along with other team members.
The visitors observed the allocation of partial shelter cash grants through a mobile banking system at the union level and toured flood-affected areas to assess the circumstances. During their visit, they engaged in discussions with members and officials of the Union Parishad (UP) representatives concerning flood response efforts and identified requirements for the post-flood rehabilitation program. The team interviewed with grants selected individuals to gain insights into the selection process, grant transfer methods, as well as the challenges faced and recommendations for improvement. In their observations of the community, the visitors noted the damaged shelters and latrines and spoke with residents about their ongoing difficulties.
The entire visit was leaded by Mr. Arifur Rahman, the YPSA Chief Executive, and overseen by Mr. Md. Shahjahan, Director of KM4D at YPSA. The Chief Executive expressed appreciation to the development partner agencies for their contributions and acknowledged the community’s accountability in facilitating the process with various stakeholders. The visiting team conveyed their positive sentiments and interest in long-term collaboration. This is mentioned that the present phase is implementing for the 3 months long from January to March reaching of 13000 more of flood effected populations.
