Between 29 May and 1 June 2025, due to the influence of a deep depression in the Bay of Bengal, Chattogram experienced heavy rainfall, resulting in a heightened risk of landslides in vulnerable hill slope settlements. In anticipation of potential disasters, and as part of early preparedness and anticipatory action, YPSA mobilized support for at-risk communities.
Anticipatory Action was activated under the project titled “Child-Centred Anticipatory Action for Better Preparedness of Communities and Local Government in Northern and Coastal Areas of Bangladesh”, implemented by Young Power in Social Action (YPSA) with technical assistance from RIMES, and supported by Save the Children and funded by the German Federal Foreign Office (GFFO).
The intervention targeted landslide-prone communities within both urban and rural vulnerable locations in Chattogram City Corporation and Banshkhali. The Kits were distributed based on the data from Common Beneficiary Database, 100 highly vulnerable households were identified and upon receiving the warning from Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).
The key objective of this distribution of Anticipatory Action was to enable vulnerable households to maintain basic hygiene, cooking, and household practices in the event of sudden evacuation or disruption caused by landslides. The distributed items were intended to reduce the risk of disease outbreaks and ensure a minimum standard of wellbeing during any displacement.
