CANSA Bangladesh Organizes Capacity-Building Workshop on Climate Policy and Politics in Chattogram

Climate Action Network South Asia (CANSA) Bangladesh organized a capacity-building training titled “Climate Change: Trends, Policies, and Politics” on December 24, 2025, at a hotel in Chattogram, with 20 local NGOs operating in the Chattogram region and other relevant stakeholders.

Opening and Strategic Overview

The program, designed to address the rapidly evolving global climate crisis, was inaugurated by Dr. Md. Arifur Rahman, Founder and Chief Executive of YPSA.

During the opening session, Mr. Mohammad Shahjahan, Chairperson of the CANSA Bangladesh Chapter and Director of YPSA, delivered a presentation on the network’s multifaceted activities. Additionally, Mr. Md. Shamsuddoha, CANSA Board Member, provided a detailed overview of CANSA’s strategic operations and regional objectives.

Technical Sessions: Science, Policy, and Diplomacy

The training featured intensive technical modules aimed at bridging global frameworks with local understanding:

  • Climate Change, Science and Its effect: Mr. Mohammad Shahjahan led this session, exploring scientific trends, their specific impacts, and the current state of Bangladesh’s preparedness.

  • Climate Policy, Diplomacy, and Finance: Mr. Md. Shamsuddoha, Chief Executive of CPRD and CANSA Board Member, conducted a detailed session on international climate policy, diplomacy, and the various mechanisms of climate funds.

  • Global Climate Politics: The sessions also delved into the complexities of UNFCCC processes and the intricate dynamics of global climate negotiations.

Spotlight on Local Solutions and Financial Accessibility

A key focus of the workshop was the practical application of climate solutions. Mr. Md. Abdus Sabur, Assistant Director of YPSA, presented YPSA’s plastic waste management initiative as a successful model for the circular economy. Furthermore, participants discussed the practical opportunities and challenges local stakeholders face in accessing national and international climate financing.

The program concluded with a formal evaluation and a vote of thanks, reinforcing the commitment of local organizations to proactive climate advocacy and regional resilience.
