Mobile Journalism: A New Chapter in Field-Level Storytelling as Purbokone Editor Addresses MoJo Workshop

CHATTOGRAM: Journalism is moving forward through the efforts of the youth, marking a new chapter in field-level storytelling as the two-day mobile journalism training workshop organized by YPSA, Purbokone, and PIJA officially commenced. Speaking as the chief guest at the opening session of the workshop titled “Mobile Journalism (MoJo) Training on Climate Action and Child Labour Elimination” held this Sunday on December 28, at the Yusuf Chowdhury Conference Hall in Purbokone Center, Dr. Md. Ramizuddin Chowdhury, Editor of Dainik Purbokone, noted that the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into mobile journalism is making this progress even more dynamic.

Dr. Chowdhury emphasized that the combination of skilled young journalists and modern technology will take the profession to new heights. “This creates a vital opportunity to more effectively present critical issues like climate change and child labor elimination in the media,” he stated. “It is truly a new chapter for journalists working at the grassroots level.”

Focus on Climate Action and Social Justice

The workshop was organized to strengthen the role of media professionals in protecting families displaced by climate change and safeguarding their children from hazardous labor. A total of 50 media workers from various media houses in Chattogram are participating in this joint initiative by Dainik Purbokone and the PCIU Journalism Alumni Association (PIJA), held in collaboration with YPSA.

Empowering Grassroots Reporting

Dr. Md. Arifur Rahman, Founder and Chief Executive of YPSA, highlighted that young journalists often face challenges in the field due to a lack of technical skills. “Through this training, they will be able to report on important grassroots issues with greater skill and confidence,” he said.

Practical Training Modules: Participants are receiving hands-on training in:

  • Smartphone Video Reporting and Photojournalism.

  • Mobile Video Editing and Digital Storytelling.

  • Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications in journalism.

Mohammad Ali Shahin, Head of Advocacy at YPSA, noted that such capacity-building programs for young journalists will continue in the future. The event was also attended by Saiful Alam, Chief Reporter of Dainik Purbokone, and other senior officials.
