Under the Sustainable Microenterprise and Resilient Transformation (SMART) project, sub-project Plastic Recycling, implemented by YPSA since October 2025, a structured and responsible approach is followed to support microenterprises in achieving sustainable growth. Before providing any loan support, the YPSA-SMART project conducts a comprehensive screening of microenterprises to ensure their eligibility and readiness. This screening process focuses on business viability, operational capacity, environmental compliance, basic sustainability practices, and the willingness of enterprises to improve occupational safety and health (OHS) conditions. Only those enterprises that meet the required criteria are selected for financial support, ensuring the effective and responsible use of project resources.
After successful screening, eligible microenterprises are provided with loan support under the YPSA-SMART project. The loan is designed to help enterprises upgrade machinery or technology, improve production efficiency, adopt environmentally friendly practices, and strengthen overall business operations and resilience. In this way, the loan mechanism aims not only to provide financial capital but also to encourage sustainable and responsible entrepreneurship among microenterprises.
Following loan disbursement, the YPSA-SMART project conducts regular assessments of supported enterprises to monitor progress and ensure the proper utilization of funds. These assessments focus on improvements in environmental performance, the establishment of OHS-friendly working environments, changes in productivity and efficiency, and compliance with project standards and loan conditions. This helps the project ensure that the intended outcomes are being achieved at the enterprise level.
In addition, the YPSA-SMART project team provides continuous supervision and technical guidance to help enterprises improve their practices. Special emphasis is given to promoting eco-friendly production processes, ensuring occupational health and safety for workers, and guiding enterprises on how they can expand from their current status toward a more sustainable and resilient future. Through this integrated approach of screening, financing, assessment, and supervision, the YPSA-SMART project supports microenterprises not only to grow economically but also to transform into environmentally responsible and socially compliant businesses that contribute positively to sustainable development.
