COX’S BAZAR | Jan 10, 2026 — Marking a significant step toward environmental conservation, Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain headlined a massive beach cleaning campaign today. Speaking at the event, the Mayor issued a clarion call for integrated action to ensure a safe and sustainable world for future generations.
The initiative, launched by YPSA in partnership with the CCC and the Cox’s Bazar Tourist Police, took place at the Laboni Point shoreline, drawing hundreds of participants committed to the cause.
A Call for Civic Responsibility
In his opening remarks, Dr. Shahadat Hossain underscored that protecting the environment is not just a government task but a collective civic duty. He highlighted that a synergy between local authorities, law enforcement, media, and youth organizations is vital for effective urban and tourism management.
“Cox’s Bazar is a source of national pride as the world’s longest natural beach. We must transition toward a zero-plastic approach to maintain its beauty and ensure it remains a world-class destination,” the Mayor asserted.
He further noted that the CCC is currently implementing a “Green, Healthy, and Safer City” vision, where youth-led environmental activism plays a central role in reducing pollution and safeguarding public health.
Campaign Highlights & Impact
The drive was marked by the active involvement of:

12 local youth organizations from Cox’s Bazar.

Over 120 trained volunteers and community members.

Representatives from the Tourist Police and local media.
Together, the teams successfully cleared approximately 250 kg of plastic and solid waste from the beach. The collected refuse was then handed over to waste management authorities for eco-friendly processing.
Driving Sustainable Tourism
The event also featured addresses from Special Guests Lion Mohammad Mujibur Rahman, Founder and Chairman of Cox’s Bazar International University, and Dr. Md. Arifur Rahman, Founder and Chief Executive of YPSA.
The speakers urged stakeholders and tourists to:
- Phase out single-use plastics during beach visits.
- Support the Tourist Police in maintaining a clean and safe environment.
- Champion the message of responsible and sustainable tourism.
Collaborative Efforts for the Future
YPSA continues to expand its environmental footprint through strategic partnerships. Currently, YPSA is collaborating with Unilever Bangladesh Limited (UBL) and the CCC on a Plastic Waste Management (PWM) project. The organization also oversees the “SMART” project funded by PKSF and a “Plastic Circularity” initiative supported by UNDP, all aimed at creating long-term, scalable waste solutions.
