A divisional level project orientation for the landmark initiative “Health System Resiliency for Improved SRHR in Bangladesh” was held March 11, 2026, at The Peninsula Chittagong, bringing together top-tier government officials and development partners to address critical health barriers facing adolescents in urban and peri-urban areas.
As noted by Shamima Chowdhury, young people in these regions continue to struggle with early marriage, adolescent pregnancy, malnutrition, and restricted access to gender-responsive services due to persistent and harmful social norms.
This inception meeting served as a vital strategic platform to align national health priorities with grassroots interventions, ensuring a more resilient and inclusive healthcare framework that bridges the gap between high-level policy and practical service delivery.
The event featured a distinguished assembly of leaders, including Dr. Sheikh Fazle Rabbi (Divisional Director, DGHS), Md. Shorif Uddin (Additional Deputy Commissioner, General), Dr. Jahangir Alam (Civil Surgeon), and Dr. Mohammad Imam Hossain Rana (Chief Health Officer, CCC), alongside Supta Dutta from the Victim Support Center and Gauri Das of the Chittagong Nursing College.
The presence of Press Club President Zahidul Karim Kochi further underscored the essential role of media in advocating for reproductive rights. Supported by a robust consortium represented by Founder-Chief Executive of YPSA – Dr. Md. Arifur Rahman, Dr. Altaf Hossain (Executive Director -BAPSA), , Alhaaz Rafique Ahmed, (Executive Director – Mamata) and Mohammed Faruque (Deputy Director -Mamata), Nasim Banu (Director of Social Development – YPSA).
The stakeholders concluded the session with a unified commitment to dismantling gender barriers and fostering a health system that protects the rights and futures of Bangladesh’s next generation.
