To call for stopping preventable deaths caused by tobacco use and also to remember the people who died due to tobacco use, YPSA with the support of CTFK has arranged a candle light vigil on the eve of New Year on 1 January, 2013, in Chittagong. The event was organized in an adjacent to shore area, Shukh Tara Lake, of the Bay of Bangle. Representatives from different NGOs, civil society organizations, media and local people Participated in the program. Two victim families attended the event and they shared their experiences.
All the participants hold a candle with flame for a few minutes and floated on the lake wishing a new year without any death causes of tobacco.
Tobacco is one of the main causes of preventable disease and premature death in the world. The rate of tobacco consumption is higher in Bangladesh than any other countries in the world. In every year, around 57000 people die and about 382000 people are disabled from tobacco related diseases.
