Global Fund team visit Malalria Control Program

The Global Fund team comprised of Mr. Ibon Villelabeitia, Media Associate Specialist of Global Fund, Ms. Meixun Jin, Program Officer of High Impact Asia Grant Management and other officials from BRAC visit Malaria Control Program in Rangunia. YPSA has been implementing Malaria control program in Rangunia Upazila under Chittagong District with the support of National Malaria Control Program ( R-6 GFATM) aiming to reduce 60% burden of Malaria in 10.9 million populations in 13 high endemic districts of Bangladesh by the year 2015.

Malaria is one of the major public health problems in Bangladesh. Out of the total 64 districts 13 districts are in the high endemic areas of malaria transmissions. In these 13 endemic districts there are 70 endemic Upazilas covering 620 unions with the total population of 10.9 million. Over 98% of the total cases in the country are reported from these areas. Rangunia is malaria epidemic area.

The team attended a meeting at YPSA Rangunia office after visiting YPSA’s Malaria Lab at Chandraghona. Mr. Shahidul Islam, Program Officer and Mr. Jigarul Islam Jigar, Upazila Manager, Malaria Control Program, YPSA presented the program activities and achivments in the meeting. Dr. Muktadir Kabir, Senior Program Manager of Natinal Malaria Control Program, Dr. Shaila Islam, Senior Program Specialist, Health, Nutrition and Population Program, BRAC and Mr. Kazi Mohammed Nurnnabi, Divisional Coordinator, Chittagong, BRAC discussed in the meeting.
