World White Cane Safety Day 2019 observed at Sitakund

The World White Cane Safety Day is celebrated every year on October 15 to highlight visually impaired people’s achievements and to remind people how white cane can play an important role in helping the visually impaired lives with greater independence. This year YPSA and Federation of DPOs Sitakund organized rally and discussion meeting and Assistive device distribution on “World White Cane Safety Day 19” at Sitakund Upazila Hall Room with the support of PKSF and Handicap International on 15 October 2019.

Mr. Milton Roy, Upazilla Nirbahi Officer of Sitakund Upazilla was present as chief guest while Mr. Nur Nobi, President of Sitakund Federation of DPOs has presided over the meeting. Ms. Lutfunnesa begum, Social Welfare Officer of Sitakund, Mr. Abdul Gafur Project Manager of Handicap International, Mr. Newaz Mahmud Program Manager of YPSA, Mr. Sanjoy Chowdhury Producer of Radio SagorGiri, MrDidarulAlom, President District Bus –Mini Bus Owners Union and Abul Basar General Secretary Sitakund Bus –Mini Bus Owners committee were present as special guest.

Rally on White Cane Safety Day 2019

Mr. JoinalAbedin, General Secretary of Sitakund Federation of DPOs Mrs. Jesmin Akter and Mr. Babul Deb Nath, Leaders of Sitakund Federation of DPOs gave their speech in the meeting. Mr. Mohiuddin Members of Federation has facilitated the events. YPSA staffs, community people, and Federation and DPOs members participated in the rally and discussion meeting.

White canes are recognized for providing the visually impaired with greater mobility, allowing them to participate more within their communities. The white cane can be alleged by many as a symbol of blindness or visual impairment.
