Savings help people combat crisis caused by an epidemic

Dithi is working in a factoryDithi has been working at Best Shirts Ltd. for the past four years. She is a 27-year-old woman who feels very happy while reminiscing about her childhood in Dinajpur district. She was one of the three daughters of her father. She never liked studying. She got married when she was in grade ten. Now, she regrets the decision not to be interested in studies and she thinks that could have made her life easier.

Dithi is one of the peer educators of HERfinance project. She has attended all the training and she liked to learn something new from the training. During the COVID-19 situation, Dithi and her husband could not go to their village. They spent months of lock-down in their home close to the factory area. Dithi talked about her experience during the pandemic. She said, “COVID-19 has brought a very bad time for the people who are not well enough. Many around her rushed to borrow money but due to the savings practice she was able to pass the days of no work without worrying too much.”

She also realizes the benefits of saving money for emergencies. She added, “The pandemic has shown me why thinking about the future is required.”

Dithi is very optimistic about the future of her only son. The understanding between Dithi and her husband is very good. They both save a standard amount of money every month and they want their child to be educated unlike them.
