1100 families affected by Cyclone “Hamoon” in Cox’s Bazar received cash assistance

Moheshkhali

YPSA, with support from Save the Children, has distributed cash among 1100 families affected by Cyclone “Hamoon” in Cox’s Bazar district. Each family received BDT 4500. A severe cyclonic storm named ‘Hamoon’ made a fierce landfall at Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh, on October 24, 2023, leaving a trail of destruction in the district and impacting the lives of hundreds of thousands people.

Chakaria

On November 09, in Badarkhali Union of Chakaria Upazila, cash has been distributed among 100 families. Distribution event took place in the playground adjacent to Badarkhali Union Parishad.

Alhaz Noore Hossain Arif, Chairman, Badarkhali Union, Chakria, Cox’s Bazar was present during the distribution. Md. Mahbubur Rahman, Program Manager, Save the Children; Mr. Md. Jamal Uddin, Deputy Program Manager and YPSA representatives were also present.

Chowpaldandi Sadar

On 16 November, 650 families in three upazilas of Cox’s Bazar received cash support. Among them, 450 families are in Kutubjoom Union Parishad of Maheshkhali upazila. Ashek Ullah Rafiq, MP, Member of Parliament (Maheshkhali-Kutubdia), Cox’s Bazar; Chairman of the concerned Union Parishad and Save the Children; and YPSA representatives were present during the cash distribution ceremony.

Eidgaon

Mr. Subal Chakma, Upazila Nirbahi Officer, Eidgaon and Mr. Mohammad Zakaria, Upazila Nirbahi Officer, Sadar and Eidgaon (Additional Duty) were present during the cash distribution among 100 families of Eidgaon Upazila in the playground adjacent to Eidgaon Upazila Parishad.

On the same day, Mr. Dipankar Tanchangya, Upazila Executive Officer, Kutubdia, Cox’s Bazar was present during the distribution of cash among 100 affected families of Kutubdia Upazila Parishad.

On 19 November, Mr. Md. Mahbubur Rahman Chowdhury, Mayor, Cox’s Bazar Municipality was present during the distribution of cash among 100 affected families of Cox’s Bazar Municipality. Mr. Md. Jamal Uddin, Deputy Program Manager; and Mr. Riyadul Haque, Coordinator, Save the Children were also present.

On 20 November, 250 families of Chaupaldandi Union of Sadar Upazila of Cox’s Bazar received cash support. Mr. Muhammad Shaheen Imran, Honorable Deputy Commissioner, Cox’s Bazar was present as the chief guest during the distribution.

Mr. Mohammad Zakaria, Upazila Nirbahi Officer, Sadar, Cox’s Bazar; Mohammad Ismail, Upazila Secondary Education Officer, Sadar, Cox’s Bazar; Mr. Mujibur Rahman, Chairman, Choupaldandi, Sadar, Cox’s Bazar. Mr. Golam Mostafa, Senior Program Manager and Mr. Md. Jamal Uddin, Deputy Program Manager, Save the Children were also present this time.

Mr. Muhammad Shaheen Imran, Deputy Commissioner, Cox’s Bazar, attended and inspected the distribution program and personally paid some. Expressing great satisfaction, he said that immediately after the cyclone, government as well as non-governmental development organizations has taken very important and laudable steps by disbursing cash. He thanked the implementing agency YPSA and the donor organization Save the Children for this. He called on the representatives of both organizations to respond to this kind of humanitarian work in the future.
