With the aim of promoting environmental conservation, protecting biodiversity, and creating greener and more sustainable educational institutions, BRAC and YPSA jointly organized a tree plantation programme at the University of Chittagong. As part of the initiative, 2,500 saplings of various species were handed over to the University of Chittagong authorities.
The programme was held on 19 August 2026 at the Pavilion of the Institute of Forestry and Environmental Sciences, University of Chittagong. The programme was attended by the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Hon’ble Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Proctor, Director of the Institute of Forestry and Environmental Sciences, as well as faculty members from different departments and senior officials of the university.
Representing YPSA, Nasim Banu Shyamoli, Director of Social Development; Tusar Kumar Roy, Project Manager; Mishkat, Associate Field Officer; and other YPSA officials and staff members were present at the programme.
In their speeches, the participants emphasized the importance of maintaining environmental balance, addressing the adverse impacts of climate change, conserving biodiversity, and ensuring a sustainable and green environment for future generations. They expressed hope that such initiatives would play an important role in further enriching the already green and environmentally friendly campus of the University of Chittagong.
The university authorities appreciated the joint initiative of BRAC and YPSA and expressed their expectation that cooperation in environmental conservation and greening initiatives would continue in the future.
In addition to the tree plantation programme at the University of Chittagong, BRAC and YPSA jointly distributed 4,000 saplings among 50 schools in Sitakunda, Banshkhali, Patiya, and Chattogram City Corporation areas. These initiatives were undertaken to promote environmental awareness among students and teachers and to encourage schools to develop greener and more sustainable learning environments.
Furthermore, 1,000 saplings were distributed among Premier University and Port City International University to support green campus initiatives and strengthen environmental awareness among university students and faculty members.
Thus, under this joint initiative, a total of 7,500 saplings were distributed among the University of Chittagong, 50 schools, Premier University, and Port City International University. The initiative reflects the shared commitment of BRAC and YPSA to environmental conservation, biodiversity protection, climate action, and the development of greener and more sustainable educational institutions.
The colourful and festive tree plantation programme at the University of Chittagong added a new dimension to the university’s ongoing greening efforts. At the same time, the distribution of 7,500 saplings across schools and universities demonstrates the broader commitment of BRAC and YPSA to building a greener, healthier, and more sustainable future for the next generation.
