Workshop on “Implementation of Tobacco Control Law in Lakshmipur” held with government officials

YPSA, GEMS and DC Office of Lakshmipur district jointly organized a workshop on “Implementation of Tobacco Control Law in Lakshmipur” with the assistance of Campaign for Tobacco Free Kids and Bloomberg Philanthropies on 7th September 2016 at GEMS training Venue. Mr. Md. Zillur Rahman Chowdhury, Deputy Commissioner of Lakshmipur district was present as chief guest in the workshop while Dr. Mostafa Khaled Ahmed, Civil Surgeon has presided over the workshop.

Besides that Mr. A.S.M. Mahtab Uddin, Police Super, Mr. Md. Sazzad Ul Hasan, Additional District Commissioner (General), Dr. Ashfaqur Rahman, President of Bangladesh Medical Association and Professor Mahabub Mohammad Ali, President of TIB, were presented as guests in the workshop.

The district tobacco control taskforce members authorized officers and law enforcing agencies were the participants of the workshop.  The main objectives of the workshop were to share Tobacco control law and Rules, share role and responsibility of authorized officer/magistrate/taskforce and develop action plan for implementing TC law in Lakshmipur.

Ms. Nasim Banu, Team Leader of Smoke Free Project of YPSA has facilitated the workshop and shared the information on harms of tobacco use, global and country status, government initiatives, overview of the amendment TC law and Rules, violation of laws, graphical health warning, role of authorized officer, taskforce and magistrate.

At the end of the workshop each participant has shared their next initiative to implement the TC law at their own jurisdiction. Mr. Asaduzzaman Chowdhury, Executive Director of GEMS has delivered the welcome speech and Md. Anowar Hossain, Senior Health Education Officer moderated the workshop.

In the workshop, DC of Lakshmipur commits to conduct taskforce meeting regularly and will display No smoking signage in all offices for comply the TC law.
