Mr. A.M. Badrudduza, Additional Secretary for the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh and Dr. Md Abdul Waheed, Line Director of National AIDS/STD Programme (NASP) visited a Drop in Centre (DIC) of street based sex workers operated by YPSA in Dhaka on May 21, 2013. YPSA Consortium (NUS, Light House & YPSA) has started implementing a project “HIV / AIDS Prevention Services for Street Based Sex Workers and their clients, Package # SP -2”. Visitors discussed with the target people, Peer Educators and staffs of DIC and they were very satisfied and mentioned to keep up the good works.
Major component of this project are setting up of Drop in Centers, providing Health Education including STD, HIV, AIDS awareness program, condom promotion, Voluntary counselling and testing, creating alternative scope for income generation through skill training, introducing adult non formal literacy program, organizing training for SBSW & their clients & peer outreach workers. Arranging different issue based advocacy with the civil society, community, law enforcement agency, local authorities and media will be sensitized and motivated to reduce harassment.
