YPSA and DC Office of Brahmanbaria district jointly organized a workshop on “Implementation of Tobacco Control Law in Brahmanbaria” with the assistance of Campaign for Tobacco Free Kids and Bloomberg Philanthropies on 5th April 2016 at Conference room, DC Office of Brahmanbaria.
Dr. Mosharrof Hossain, Deputy Commissioner of Brahmanbaria district was present as a chief guest in the workshop where Dr. Hasina Akter, Civil Surgeon has presided over the workshop. Besides that Mr. Md. Mizanur Rahman, Police Super, Mr. Md. Basirul Hoque Bhuiyan, Additional District Commissioner (General) and Mr. Md. Shamsul Hoque, Additional District Magistrate, were present as guests in the workshop. The district tobacco control taskforce members, authorized Officers, representatives from Brahmanbaria municipality were the participants of the workshop.
The main objectives of the workshop were to share Tobacco control law and Rules, share role and responsibility of authorized officer, magistrate & taskforce and develop plan for implementing TC law in Brahmanbaria. Ms. Nasim Banu, Team Leader of Smoke Free Project of YPSA has facilitated the workshop and shared the information on harms of tobacco use, Global and country status, Government initiatives, Overview of the amendment of TC law and Rules, Violation of laws, Graphical Health Warning, Role of authorized officer, taskforce members and magistrate. At the end of the workshop each participant has shared their next initiatives to implement the TC law at their own jurisdiction.
In the workshop, DC of Brahmanbaria commits that mobile court will give jail to the law violators instead of penalty, he will give a notice to all government offices for displaying no smoking signage, operate a mobile court on GHW, regularize the task force meeting and publish advertisement in the local newspaper for comply the TC law.
