With the slogan “Health right is fundamental right: Need constitutional recognition”, SUPRO (Campaign for Good Governance), a national network of grassroots NGOs in Bangladesh organized a press conference at the Shagor Runi Hall of Dhaka Reporters Unity on April 6, 2016. YPSA was the co-organizer of this event out of other eight organizations.

Md. Arifur rahman, Chief Executive of YPSA and General Secretary of SUPRO gave welcome speech while Ahmed Shawpan Mahmud, Chairperson of SUPRO presided over the meeting. The keynote speech on “Beat diabetes” was given by Dr. Muhammad Abdul Mazid, Former NBR chairman and Coordinator of Diabetic Association of Bangladesh.

Speakers demanded that government should be responsible for public health protection and should take necessary steps for constitutionally recognizing “Health” as fundamental right.

The budgetary allocation on health sector is decreasing gradually. Counterfeit medicine and food are serious concern to public health. The person taking the counterfeit medicine is putting their health, even their life, at risk. Sometimes, Individuals with serious mental illness are victimized by violent acts like murder, rape etc. Government should pay attention to these issues.

Representatives from different print, electronic and online medias and civil society took part in the press conference.
