A coordination meeting was held with the journalists working in Chakaria Upazila on the role of journalism in strengthening social movement against violent extremism. The meeting was organized by the NONGOR in collaboration with the YPSA CEVEC Consortium and funded by GCERF on 26th August at Red Chili Restaurant Conference room in Chakaria Sadar. In the meeting, Ms. Khaleda Begum, Team Leader of YPSA CEVEC Consortium and Deputy Director of YPSA was present as key speaker.
She said, “There is no alternative to young leadership in preventing violent extremism. Only the youth can save the society and the country from the horrors of violent extremism. That is why we organize awareness workshops and trainings in secondary level educational institutions in 17 unions and one municipality area of Chakaria Upazila as one of the initiatives of the project. Besides, we organize seminars/meetings with local people’s representatives, journalists, religious leaders and dropout youth and women.”
“Skill development needs to be accelerated to ensure a bright future for the new generation. At the same time, they need to be protected from danger by engaging them in sports and cultural activities. Journalists have a greater role to play in raising awareness in all walks of life. I hope the journalist community will stand by the good work and develop a social movement against violent extremism.” She added.
Journalists Jaker Ullah Chakori, M.R Mahmud, Rafiq Ahmed, A.M Umar Ali, Iqbal Farooq, M Ziabul Haque, Mizbaul Haque, Mohammad Ullah, Abdul Majid, Ziauddin Farooq, M Mansur Alam, Bappi Shahriar, Zahirul Alam Sagar, Jamal Hossain, MS Hannan Shah, Nizam Uddin, Mansur Mohsin, Oliullah Rony, Sayedee Akbar Faisal, Abdul Karim have participated the meeting among others.
In this program Mr. Nazmul Barat Rony, Program Coordinator of YPSA CEVEC Consortium and Mohammed Rashel, Manager of Chakraya YPSA -NONGOR CEVEC Project, Project Facilitators Md. Zubaid and Ekhlasur Rahman spoke on the activities of the project.
