YPSA has completed the distribution of relief materials to 500 flood-affected and vulnerable fisherfolk and working-class families in Chattogram. YPSA distributed these relief items with the cooperation of Finlay Tea, a renowned institution in Chattogram. On this occasion, a relief distribution program was held on August 5, in the Bojroghona Jelepara area (Lane No. 8, Ward No. 18) of East Bakalia in the city. Relief packages were handed over to 150 fisherfolk families at the event. The packages were distributed in the presence of the Honorable Member of Parliament for the Chattogram-9 constituency, Mohammad Abu Sufian.
Honorable Member of Parliament for the Chattogram-9 constituency, Mohammad Abu Sufian, was present as the chief guest at the relief distribution program. He handed over the relief items to the affected fisherfolk families and praised the initiatives of the organizing and partner organizations for standing by the affected people during the disaster.
Organized by the District Administration and District Fisheries Office, Chattogram, and supported by Young Power in Social Action (YPSA), Finlay Tea, and DIFEE, relief materials have so far been handed over to 500 flood-affected and vulnerable families in various locations across Chattogram, including East Bakalia, West Bakalia, Fishery Ghat, and Basthara areas.
Salma Begum, District Fisheries Officer of Chattogram, spoke as the keynote speaker at Tuesday’s distribution ceremony. She said that the government and relevant organizations are working in a coordinated manner for the rapid rehabilitation and livelihood recovery of the flood-affected fisherfolk. Such humanitarian initiatives will play an important role in helping the affected families overcome their difficult times and return to normal life.
Mohammad Ali Shahin, Head of Advocacy at YPSA, spoke as a special guest. He stated that 500 relief packages have been distributed among the flood victims in Chattogram so far. Today, 150 packages of this phase are being distributed in the presence of the Honorable MP. Through this initiative, essential support during difficult times has reached affected and vulnerable families in Chattogram’s East Bakalia, West Bakalia, Fishery Ghat, Basthara, Muradpur, and Sonaichhari of Sitakunda.
Also present at the event were Nurul Alam Raju, Anwar Hossain Lipu, Ibrahim Bachchu, Alamgir Hossain, Abu Taher, Mohiuddin, Abdullah Al Sagir, and Asgar Hossain. The program was moderated by Fisheries Officer Kamal Uddin.
Another distribution event was organized by the West Bakalia Social Office. Prominent social worker and politician Mr. Mohammad Jahangir Alam, President of the West Bakalia Social Office, was present as the chief guest. Rahela Akhtar, Inspector of the Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishments, along with Finlay Tea Managers Lutful Azam and Junayet Hossain Chowdhury, were also present. Local dignitaries, representatives of various social organizations, and local elders attended the occasion. The beneficiaries expressed their sincere gratitude to the organizers and supporting organizations upon receiving the relief.
