“Male domination and subordination of women are the underlying tenants of the country’s social structure. Men have the economic control and therefore are the decision makers. Women’s lives are dominated by a highly restricted social structure. Although women contribute to the family, often their efforts are not valued.” Speakers said at a seminar on “Women’s Day and Women Empowerment: Bangladesh Perspective” jointly organized by Bangladesh Mahila Parishad and YPSA with the support of Alliance to End Domestic Violence against Women in Chittagong on 9 March. Begum Semon Ara Toiyab, Member of Parliament was present as chief guest in the
seminar.
