A delegation from Save the Children visited various development activities of YPSA in different areas of Cox’s Bazar. On June 10, the Save the Children team visited the YPSA CALL (Free Kids) Project in the Nazirartek area of Cox’s Bazar Sadar, the YPSA Resilient Housing and Livelihoods Development (RHL) Project in Ramu Upazila, and the activities of the YPSA Multi-Sectoral Recovery and Empowerment Support Project.
The visiting team included A.S.M. Rahmatullah Bhuiyan, Deputy Country Director of Save the Children, and Md. Golam Mostafa, Head of Area Office, Cox’s Bazar, Save the Children. Representing YPSA were Dr. Md. Arifur Rahman, Founder and Chief Executive of YPSA; Mohammad Shahidul Islam, Deputy Director and Regional Head of YPSA; Jishu Barua, Assistant Director; and Enayet Mawla, Finance Manager, among others.
During the visit, the Save the Children team observed various initiatives undertaken by YPSA to rehabilitate climate-displaced families. They spoke with several climate-displaced families who have become self-reliant after receiving assistance under these YPSA projects.
They visited the climate-resilient or disaster-resistant houses of the climate-affected beneficiaries. They also conducted on-site observations of various livelihood-based and climate-resilient initiatives aimed at improving the livelihoods of the affected communities, including goat rearing on slatted platforms (macha), mushroom cultivation, ginger cultivation in sacks, and vegetable cultivation using the bed method.
The Deputy Country Director of Save the Children stated that these initiatives are playing a crucial role in improving the quality of life, enhancing livelihoods, and building disaster resilience among the beneficiaries. He highly praised YPSA’s sincerity and effectiveness in implementing the projects. Relevant project officers, field workers, and local beneficiaries were also present during this time.
Following the visit, an opinion-exchange meeting was held in the conference room of the YPSA HRDC-Cox’s Bazar campus. The meeting was attended by the heads of various projects implemented in the host and camp areas of the YPSA Cox’s Bazar region. Participants expressed their commitment to working together to implement more effective and sustainable development activities for the welfare of grassroots people.
During the meeting, Save the Children’s Deputy Country Director A.S.M. Rahmatullah Bhuiyan said,
“We have a long-standing, friendly relationship with YPSA. We have worked together on many initiatives. In continuation of that, YPSA’s role in rehabilitating climate-displaced people, women’s empowerment, child protection, and the eradication of child labor deserves high praise.”
