Guliakhali and Bhuiyanpara Knowledge Centers in collaboration with YPSA, Actionaid Bangladesh and Democratic Budget Movement organized a view exchange meeting titled”Decentralized and participatory national budget from the district level” at Sitakund Upazila Conference Hall on June 2, 2013 with the support of YPSA.
Speakers emphasized the need for preparing people’s participatory national budget for reflecting the hopes and aspirations of the people in general. Speakers also demanded the government to initiate budget formulation from district level to make the next national budget a democratic and pro-poor one.
They also stated that any budget formulation without ensuring people’s active participation cannot be democratic and therefore it will surely fail to reflect people’s demand.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mr. Mohammed Shahin Imran was present as chief guest, Upazila Social Welfare Officer Mr. Mohammed Alamgir presided over the meeting while Program Officer of YPSA Mr. Newaz Mahmud, moderated the meeting.
Ms. Alea Begum, Member of Union Parishad and Manager of Guliakhali Knowledge Center handover the memorandum to the UNO.
Representatives from local government, civil society, Federation of disabled people organization and government officials participated in the meeting.
