“If Probashi Kallyan Bank (A Bank for Expatriates’ Welfare) and Bangladesh Samabaya (Cooperative) Bank can be established then why not Microcredit Bank” said State Minister for Finance Mr. M. Abdul Mannan MP in a regional conference titled “Banks and MFIs Collaboration in Sustainable Development of Special Zones” jointly organized by YPSA and Credit & Development Forum (CDF) on 13 December 2014 at Hotel Saint Martin, Chittagong. “I will propose to government’s policymakers to get supplementary facilities for the Micro Finance Institutions” he added.
Mr. Khandokar Mazharul Hoq, Executive Vice Chairman of Microcredit Regulatory Authority (MRA) was present as special guest in the conference. The keynote paper on “Challenges and prospects of MFIs in Chittagong division” was presented by Md. Arifur Rahman, Chief Executive of YPSA.
Mr. Mosharaf Hossain , Chairman of CDF moderated the session and other guests were Mr.Emranul Haq Chowdhury, ED of UDDIPON, Mr.Abdul Awal, ED of CDF , Mr.Lokman Hakim, ED of PAGE, Mr.Rafiq Ahmad, Chief Executive of MAMATA, Mr.Zahirul Alam, ED of IDF, Mr.Abdul Awal, ED of NRDS and Ms.Monowara Begum, ED of Prottyashi .
Special guest Executive director of Bangladesh Bank Mr. Mizanur Rahman Joarder said,”There are some terms and conditions involved to provide credit from the Banks which is so complicated for the MFIs to meet. In this respect, new policy and guideline should be formulated for the MFIs.”
Representatives from different Micro Finance Institutions (MFIs) in Chittagong division and senior officials from different Banks participated in the conference.
